16th December 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

I have been an Iluka resident for over 11 years and just would like to highlight the fact that Sir James McCusker park is not there for the exclusive use of Iluka residents. The City of Joondalup promotes this as well as other passive parks on its website as great places for family picnics and barbecues or just a place to relax and walk your dog. It also lists this park as available for hire for weddings and being an Iluka resident I am aware of the community events held there by the Homeowner's Association and local Baptist Church. This is why Public Toilets are needed. The honest majority's bodily functions should rate above the minority who indulge in anti social behaviour.

14th December 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

We live in Iluka. We do not use the park because of the lack of toilets. I am really pleased to hear that Joondalup Council are planning to install public toilets. The sooner, the better.

13th December 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

...I say NO to Public Toilets to Sir James McCusker Park...we are[Iluka Residents] already haveing troubel with vandels and graffiti...by creating a new toilet block it will only become another target for this hoods and even more unsaviory characters after dusk....which of course us the people of Iluka will have to fork out time and time again for repairs, the clean of the graffiti and so on....
Toilet Blocks in this park is a BIG NO i say.........
D. Salway

13th December 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

I agree with D. Salways - NO to public toilets in Sir James McCusker Park.
I live in the area, and have not found the need for a public toilet whilst enjoying the park.
I agree it will encourage other suburbs residents lingering longer - (there are not many parks close by as beautiful as Sir James McCusker).
Public toilets will be an ideal place for anti social behaviour by youngsters. This is already a problem over weekends.
I went for a walk in the park today - and there were KFC cartons dumped in Serena Rd from youngsters who were partying from their car Saturday night.
S. Reed

12th December 2010: Snakes in Sir James McCusker Park

We'd like to make residents aware that there have been a number of snake sightings in Sir James McCusker Park. While we don't know exactly what type of snakes these are, residents using the park, especialy those with young children, are encouraged to excercise additional caution espacially around the bush area's of the park.
Any snake sightings should be reported to the City of Joondalup Ranger Services on 9400 4960.

5th December 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

After reading the notice that plans for toilets at the park are with the City of Joondalup, I am wondering if there is anything we can do to speed it along, maybe by writing or calling them?
It is a gorgeous park and the lack of toilets really puts me off using the facilities espicially with my elderly grandparents and 2 young children, I dont really understand the lack of toilets being a deterent to other suburb "users" as most suburbs now have there own nice play areas and I would hate to think I was being segregated from using their facilites!

25th November 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

I agree with D. Salway and also say, NO to Public Toilets in OUR Park. S. Green

20th November 2010: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

I am writing to express my feelings on the notice posted by a resident asking for "Public Toilets" to be built at Sir James McCusker Park. Myself and other resident do not want Public Toilets built at our park... I say our park because we as Iluka residents pay for the upkeep of the park which we can all use. Iluka residents means we are walking distance or a very short drive away for those who are unable to walk the short distance... therefore if you require a call of nature we are only a short stroll back to the house! Why waste our money on items not really needed for other suburbs to come along and enjoy our park on our money.... building a toilet block will not only bring other suburbs in but also create a hang out for unsaviory character's after dark....I say NO to so called Public Toilets. D. Salway

10th November 2010: Sir James McCusker Park

Turfworks WA Pty Ltd have been conducting lawnmowing operations in Iluka and particularly Sir James McCusker park for the last seven years. There is just the two of us, we are owner operators. Turfworks has provided a standard of service second to none. All lawns mowed regularly and completely vaccummed pick up in this time Never leaving a leaf out of place. We have made good relationships with the iluka residents who use this park for walking their pets or just a casual stroll as we are there weekly through the best part of the year. We subcontract for a landscape company who for some unknown reason have decided to terminate our services without a reason why other then they are economically tightening their belts and are still handing it over to another contractor who is not owner operators and undoubtedly must be costing more.
I have contacted Paul Easthope to express our dissapointment for our termination other than the stated reason. We have not adjusted our price in all of seven years and feel now we would like the support of the people who utilise this park. We have spoken to some residents who are not very happy about this situation. We need your support in an effort to remain servicing this park. Please contact Paul Easthope from Satterlys to voice your feelings and with a bit of luck we can continue providing the excellent service that we have provided over the last seven years at a very cost effective price! Mike Touchell

24th October 2010: TAB at Hobsons Gate - Update

In reading through the recent posts, I have noticed one on the proposed TAB at Hobsons Gate, Currambine.
I, along with many residents, posted objections to this proposal and I was recently informed that the application has now been withdrawn entirely! A good win for the community.
Although the sign is still up on the tenancy, some of you may have noticed that the unit in which it was proposed is now back up for lease.
Albert Jacob, Member for Ocean Reef

18th October 2010: Public Toilets James McCuster Park

As a resident of Iluka for 12years,I'm still wondering why we haven't got any toilets at this park? I have three children and its's very hard to go to the park noing that we may have to dash home for the toilet at any time. Isn't there some toilets at the park down the road at the beach?
I realise it's suppose to be a park for residents in Iluka but when you have a 2yr old toilet training it's gets very hard to tell him to hold on. Also we like to have the odd picnic with family and friends down there, makes it very awkward.
Janine

From the Committee
Provision of toilet facilities at the park has been on the City of Joondalups capital works agenda for several years although we do not yet have a firm timeline for construction.

21st September 2010: President's Wine and Cheese Night

The committee of the IHOA would like to invite Iluka residents to the President's Wine & Cheese night to be held on Thursday 14th October 2010.

Due to the size of the venue, numbers are striclty limited so book early and enjoy a night out with other Iluka residents.

The event is only open to Iluka residents and as alcohol is being served, children are not permitted. To reserve a place, email events@iluka.org.au including your name, address and stating the number of people from your residence who will be attending.

13th September 2010: Dogs on Iluka Foreshore

I am very concerned about the amount of dogs running free on the beach. I like dogs very much but it is becoming a real hazard for small children as the dogs race about and all too often their droppings are left where they fall. I have rung the ranger but of course, by the time he arrives, the miscreants have left. On occasions it is very difficult to enter/leave the water as several dogs hurtle up and down the sand.
We walk most days and during the last few months have never failed to see dogs on the beach.
The signs are clear and obvious - and being totally ignored.

16th August 2010: anti-social behaviour

Does anyone know if the neighbour hood watch group is active? We have had 3 incidents occur over the last 6 months, the most recent being a large heavy Buddha stolen from our front garden on saturday night 26/06/10.
I did not expect this kind of behaviour in Iluka. Has anyone experienced any other anti-social issues? V. Harris

From the Committee
There have been a number of attempts to form a neighbourhood watch over the past few years but all attempts thus far have received very little interest and as such no such group is active in Iluka. Given the lack of any formal arrangements, we suggest that neighbours establish informal arrangements between themselves and forward information through to Police, City Watch and ourselves.

12th February 2010: Joondalup car parking charges

Dear Iluka Residents,
Local resident, Tom Sewell , recently voiced his objection to paid parking at our hospital. He is receiving great support by petitions and emails, etc.
People power is wiping this out at U K hospitals who began charging.

Who can estimate the waiting time in hospitals. How many people pay for extra time because they guess a visit length then add, in an attempt to avoid a $60 fine? How many people have had their change stolen by the machines. Is it morally right when sitting with an ill or dying relation, to be worrying about a parking machine You can surely add more situations.

A Shire Admin. employee informed us that our Councillors chose to provide the people we pay to fine us around Joondalup centre, also to administer the fines at our hospital. You may, like many of us, also object to charges around our town. We pay for a senior Councillor to have free parking ,but low and lesser paid private employees are now parking charged, to be at work. A charity shop, a Chinese restaurant , a cafe on the edge of town and other businesses are loosing business due to charged parking. Some people now shop elsewhere, where parking inflicts no charge.

If you support Tom's protest, please tell him.
He's in the local 'phone book . His email address: tomsha2@bigpond.com
I have no regular political leaning.

Kind regards,
John.
