12th July 2006: Iluka Polling Place
At the next Federal Election, probably October or November 2007, you will be able to vote at the newly created Iluka Polling Place. The polling place will be located in the Committee Rooms of the Beaumaris Sports Association building. A lack of infrastructure, such as primary schools, has prevented this creation in the past.
New legislation will remove the time available to update address details when an election is announced. The legal requirement has been compulsory since 1924 for every Australian over 18 years of age (21 yrs initially) to be enrolled for their permanent residential address. A permanent residential address is one that you have lived at for 30 days or more.

6th July 2006: Neighbourhood Watch - volunteers wanted!
In response to a number of concerns raised about various security issues in Iluka, the committee is looking into the option of re-initiating the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in Iluka. A Neighbourhood Watch Scheme was introduced when Iluka was first established but seemed to fizzle out for various reasons. Now that the population of Iluka has grown and given that there have been some issues of concern to residents, we feel that this is a good time to get the scheme going again.
We have been in contact with the Crime Prevention Unit at Hillarys Police Station and they have offered us assistance in getting the scheme going and have also offered to conduct talks on various topics ("Senior Safety" for example). The Crime Prevention Unit also carry out security appraisals on homes, free of charge.
We encourage all residents to get involved. If you would like to volunteer to get involved in the scheme or you'd simply like more information about the services offered by the Crime Prevention Unit, please contact the committee.
We will post updates on this site as the scheme develops so be sure to check back regularly, you can also find more information on the Neighbourhood Watch Website.

9th May 2006: Here Here Dave!
While we are on about the rubbish issue when soccer season is here, why don't we mention the
parking issues when training is on! While the car park is near empty we can't get in or out
of our driveways safely! Maybe while they are sitting in their cars waiting for their kids
they will take notice of how inconvenient it is for residents.
Buy the way we don't have this problem when the Rugby or cricket is on!.

3rd May 2006: Covenant Update.
As many residents are aware, the suburb of Iluka has a number of covenants in place which are designed to maintain the high standard of the suburb by stipulating what the land owner may and may not do with their property.
In terms of the constitution the committee has a duty to enforce the covenants but has relied on residents community spirit to comply. This is clearly not working and we have recieved numerous complaints from residents about an increasing number of breaches, primarily with regard to commercial vehicles, caravans and boats. Residents have also been receiving abusive telephone calls and anonymous notes left in letterboxes.
It is therefore clear to us that residents expect us to take a more active stance in policing the covenants. We have recently conducted an audit of covenant compliance and as a result have identified over 50 breaches. We have taken the step of issuing an initial letter to residents informing them of the breach and requesting their co-operation in remedying the breach. We are also formulating a covenant policy which we hope to publish on this website very soon.
Further information is to be found on our covenants page. If you have any questions or concerns regarding covenants please contact the committee via email or to speak to us in person, you are welcome to attend one of our regular committee meetings.

3rd May 2006: Yobbies at soccer on Iluka reserve.
I see the soccer season has returned and with it rubbish left all over iluka res. maybe these out suburbans should go and play soccer in they own back yard ,if they cant respect our backyard
.
David Jackson
From the Committee
The soccer season means that the park is extremely busy on a Sunday and unfortunately with that many people in one place there will always be a few who feel the need to drop litter with impunity. We've passed these concerns on to the Soccer Club and we would appeal to all residents who are also club members to please be aware and mindful of our neighbours surrounding the park.

19th April 2006: Security concerns in Iluka
Over the summer months there has been a noticeable increase in security issues around Iluka, particularly with regard to incidents of underage drinking and vandalism in James McCusker park. The developers (Satterly), Police and Joondalup Council have taken a number of measures to address these problems and so far these have had some success. We at the committee of the Home Owners Association would like to express out appreciation to all concerned and are in contact with local police to determine what further steps we as a community can take to pro-actively maintain a high level of security in Iluka and safeguard residents.
We request any residents who observe any incident to report it to local police on 131 444 or Joondalup City Watch on 1300 655 860. We would also appreciate it if you could let us know via email of all reported incidents to enable us to monitor progress in partnership with police and the council. Please do not directly confront any individuals.

23rd March 2006: Dogs in childrens playground.
I am becoming increasingly agitated with the number of dog owners bringing their dogs into the
childrens playground. Last week one woman was using the playground equipment as an exercise
circuit for her dog and became abusive when I pointed out that the playground was for children.
Ten minutes later my daughter stepped in faeces left by the dog in the sand. Not only is it
unhygienic but my daughter is now becoming scared of dogs because she cant play freely in the
playground without some dog coming up for a sniff or a shove.
Can signs be erected by both entrances to the playground advising dog owners that the
playground is for children only and not for their dogs.

18th March 2006: To Responsible Cat Owners.
If any responsible cat owners would like to help save the native birds visiting our gardens,
then there is a cat collar I've found on the internet that looks like a good idea.

I'd be happy to negotiate a bulk buy if any are interested.

9th March 2006: Underground cabling and TV Antennas.
The IHOA Committee would like to draw the attention of all residents to the situation with regard
to cabling and TV antennas. Under the Iluka covenants TV antennas are prohibited as the
underground cabling system makes them unnecessary, however there are certain parts of Iluka where
the cabling is incomplete, Omara Boulevard is one such area.
E-wire are currently undertaking cabling work in the area but it is not yet complete, as a
temporary measure, the covenant regarding TV antennas has been waived for
residents in affected areas.
It has however, come to the attention of the Committee that residents in affected properties have
been receiving some abuse, either verbal or via anonymous letters with regard to this perceived
covenant breach. We ask all residents to please contact the Committee in the first instance if
you have any concerns about covenant breaches rather than subject your neighbours
to unnecessary scrutiny. To those residents responsible for the anonymous letters, we believe
that a second letter of apology may be appropriate.

16th January 2006: Clean up your mess
I am becoming concerned with the amount of dog faeces left on the verge between burns beach road
and cavello view.On a daily basis it is not unusual to find seven mounds here. These people
come out very late at night or very early in the mornings so as not to be seen. My main concern
is that at least 12 children die in australia every year from diseases picked up from dog faeces.
As a mum of 3 whose children play nearby it is very worrying as well as frustrating. Maybe some
signs to highlight the dangers of leaving your mess behind can be located or a leaflet to warn
people of these dangers, any feedback would be appreciated.
Jane Burke
From the Committee
Please refer to an earlier notice regarding this issue. It would appear
that a small number or highly irresponsible dog owners seem intent on spoiling the suburb for
all residents. Any residents observing dog owners deliberately allowing their dogs to foul
a public place are advised to contact the City of Joondalup Ranger Service.

16th January 2006: Dogs off lead in Parks
As an owner of 2 dogs, one of which has issues with dogs he doesn't know I am concerned at the
number of dogs off lead in the parks whose owners do not have control of them. These dogs rush
up to my dogs to say hello resulting in my male dog lunging, barking etc and being very difficult
to manage. We take our dog to reactive rover classes to try and stop this behaiviour which works so long as out of control dogs dont come rushing up.
Please, if you do not have control of your dog eg it will go rushing up to other dogs in the park
-- keep it on a lead.
