20th November 2005: Discovery Park.
After living in Discovery Circuit, Iluka for the past 4 years we have noticed the gradual lack of attention that the park seems to get, apart from the odd lawn mowing.
The park is slowly being overtaken by clover and apparently we were informed from another neighbour that it will not be sprayed unless it becomes a problem ie prickles on childrens feet etc.
Well i guess when the children come home with their socks covered on burrs that i spend the next few days vacuuming up and picking off my carpet then it is a problem.
The children cannot run at the park without shoes.
After a recent trip to Brighton north of Quinns I couldnt believe my eyes to see such beautiful parks everywhere, with playgrounds and feature work etc.It makes our park look pretty dismal, and our surrounding neighbours all seem to agree.
Before we worry about bins for dog poo etc how about bringing the park up to standard and making it more inviting for the kids - at least decent grass to run on.
We are surrounded by so many kids in this area.
And as for the dog poo - responsible people take a bag with them when they walk their dog and take home with them.
Placing a bin there wont solve the problem of irresponsible people.
Heidi Brazier
From the Committee
We have recieved a number of complaints about the condition of the park in discovery circuit,
unfortunately the park does not fall under the SAR so it is not under the control of the
committee or our maintenance contractor but instead all maintenance is managed by the Developers
(Satterly) and
Joondalup council who we have contacted to pass on the concerns of residents.
As yet we have no timeframe as to when the park will fall under our remit, until then residents are
encouraged to contact the developers and council with their concerns.

5th October 2005: Security of Bushland from Arson
To all residents.
Two teenage boys were seen running from the site of a bushfire on Naturaliste Bvd. at 8am this morning.
If you have any knowledge of this incident, please contact the police.
It is in the interest of all home owners to prevent incidents of this nature from being repeated and to nip such acts in the bud.
This time we were able to get the fire under control before the fire service arrived, we may not be so lucky next time.
Please be extra vigilant during weekends and school holidays.

14th Feb 2005: A bin in Discovery Circuit Park
I would love to see a bin placed in Discovery Circuit Park as there is a large amount of dog
droppings in this park & on the path through it. I think people are deterred from picking up
their dog pooh because they have nowhere to deposit it & dont like to have to carry it all the
way to another bin. Would the placing of a bin at this park be offensive to nearby residents?
Clare Mulholland.
From the Committee
We suggest that residents around the park contact Joondalup Council who manage all the bins in
the suburb, we're sure they will be happy to assist. Is it the time of year or something in the
air but there seems to be more and more dog droppings all over the suburb? We wouldn't like to
believe that dog owners in Iluka are so uncaring about their neighbours.

14th Feb 2005: A Mailbox in Iluka
There is no mailbox in our suburb. The nearest one is in the shoppingcentre Currambine. Are there more people who wants a mailbox in the centre of our suburb?.

13th Jan 2005: Currambine Shopping Centre a Local Disgrace
What are your thoughts on the access for pedestrians, and the disgraceful "landscaping" and maintenance of the Currambine Shopping Centre?
For mine, it is an absolute disgrace to the community (not only Iluka) to have a local shopping centre with surrounding grounds of the centre to be in such bad condition. It really is a blight on the area. And what about that ugly fenced off drainage sump on the Marmion Ave grassed rise to the car park !!
Added to this is the centre has no user friendly access for pedestrians, let alone any for disabled people. It did have access pathways until the ugly sump was put in on the hill and now all we have is a steep climb up the sand and grassy bank with tracks through what was a garden area.
The management of the centre do nothing to encourage people coming to the centre on foot (or other means by people with disabilities).
Local people should be encouraged to visit the centre to go to the movies, restaurants, shops, medical practices etc by walking there, but are only discouraged to do this by the lack of suitable access.
I have forwarded my thoughts to the centre management and I suggest others to do the same if they feel the same as I do on this matter.
