5th January 2012: Movies in the park

Does anyone know if there will be the usual movies in the park this summer? We've normally received a list by now so I was wondering if our house had been missed by mistake or if they are not happening this year?
Emma

From the Committee
Unfortunately it appears that the Movies in the park is not running this year. In the past this has been organised by the Beaumaris Baptist Church (Ocean Reef).

5th January 2012: Cinema

Could anyone advise if we will be having the cinema in the park again this year?
Clare

20th December 2011: Weeds

Who is responsible for weed maintenance on paths/roundabouts/kerbs etc? Is it COJ? Does anyone have any knowledge of when this was last done? Shenton Avenue and Burns Beach Road/Ocean Reef Road seem to be reasonably well maintained but many of the side roads are looking in desperate need of some TLC? What do we pay extra rates for? I have emailed the council a couple of times. Does anyone have a contact who we should speak to?
Emma

From the Committee
Residents are remined that the best approach is to use the online reporting facilty. All issues logged using this facility along with the resolution are reported to the committee on a monthly basis.

15th November 2011: Halloween in Sir James McCuster Park

Many thanks to everyone who attended the Halloween in the park event which was recently run by the IHOA. The response exceeded our wildest expectations. We ended up with many more children than we expected and we apologies if anyone missed out on a treat. More importantly however the event raised $320 for the McCusker Alzheimers Research Foundation, many thanks for your donations.

17th October 2011: NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS REQUIRED FOR 2011-2012

Several committee members are standing down as of the forthcoming AGM. Without a committee the association cannot function.

Some residents have served on the committee for more than 5 years, some since the creation of the Association in 1999, making substantial contributions to the community of ILUKA. The IHOA needs community minded ILUKA residents like you to get involved and bring fresh ideas to the association.

The following positions will become vacant:

  • Chairperson
This involves chairing the monthly meetings and AGM along with providing a point of contact for the City of Joondalup with regard to issues concerning Iluka and representing Iluka at various City of Joondalup civic events.
  • Vice-Chairperson
The Vice-Chairperson provides assistance to the Chairperson as required and may chair committee meetings or attend various events and council meetings in the Chairpersons absence.
  • Landscaping/Maintenance Liaison
This involves liaising with the City of Joondalup and the Contractor to maintain the standards in Iluka. This will be ideal for one or more individuals who have an interest in gardening and who would like to influence the landscaping for the whole suburb.
  • Secretary
This primarily involves taking down and distributing the minutes of the monthly committee meetings and dealing with correspondence.
  • Treasurer
The role of Treasurer involves some simple account tasks each month and a trip to the bank. At the end of the financial year prior to the AGM the Treasurer ensures that the books are handed to the Auditors.
  • Ordinary Members
Other members typically assist with a variety of tasks depending upon their interests and availability. These tasks range from organising various community events, assiting executive committee members as required, representing the interests of the suburb to Council and other stakeholders, through to active involvement in council focus groups and committees (eg: Ocean Reef Marina Focus group & the City of Joondalup Crime Prevention Strategy advisory committee)

None of these tasks are very time consuming and can be very rewarding, providing interesting insights into the workings of local Government and allow you to have a say in how YOUR rates and SAR contributions are spent. If you have ever wanted to have a say in how Iluka is maintained and to help influence local government policy in the suburb then this is an ideal opportunity to do so.

If you are interested in joining the committee for the following year you can do so by:

17th October 2011: Halloween in Sir James McCuster Park

Hey kids ...instead of knocking on doors on October 31st this year, why not come down to McCusker park for some tricks and treats!   find out more »
This is a free event but a gold coin donation to the McCusker Alzheimers Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

8th October 2011: TAB Outlet Proposal

For those who are not aware, a new TAB outlet has been proposed for Currambine Marketplace Shopping Centre, to be located next door to Dan Murphy's in close proximity to the existing cinema, the new park and community centre that are to be developed.
Due to the fact that the previous TAB proposal made almost a year ago in respect of an outlet at Hobson's Gate caused a great deal of angst amongst local residents, I would like to bring this current proposal to your attention and ensure that you have an opportunity to comment on the proposal.

Whilst the initial comment period closed on 23 September, we have contacted Racing & Wagering WA and have been successful in obtaining an extension to the closing date until 20 October 2011, so that the community are fully aware of this proposal and given ample opportunity to comment.

If you wish to make a submission - it should be addressed to:

14th September 2011: Dog poo

Whilst I agree with Ronnie about some "non-poo picker uppers" being from out of the Iluka area but what about the poo that is appearing ever more frequently on our footpaths. Surely out of Iluka residents can't be blamed for that too. In the few years since living here this has I beleve become an increasing problem. So come on guys lift your game and pick up after your canine buddies so we can all enjoy our environment.
Jan

1st September 2011: Dogs

Margaret, I totally agree with you, but in defence of the responsible dog owners we are pedantic about picking up after our canine children, but unfortunatly not everybody who visits the park are from Iluka and really don't give a damn. Many of us see this and will ask them to clean up but they are in denial and will tell us to buzz off. We know they are not locals, we are trying to keep the park clean of doggy doos and on many occassions will clean up after other peoples dog messes to keep the children safe from unwanted gifts. We are very aware of this issue. And another observation many times over non locals pinch all the dog litter bags so sometimes we don't have access to these bags provided by our council, that's very maddening, and frustrating. Believe me as a responsiable dog owner, we are all doing our best to clean up after our dogs.
Ronnie

30th August 2011: Dogs

There are a lot of comments from dog owners about the rights and wrongs of having dogs on a leash. Can any of these owners tell me if they bother to pick up after their dogs?
We live close to a park and today took our three young grandchildren to enjoy the winter sun and get some fresh air. The outing was spoilt by constantly having to watch were they went and cleaning their shoes of dog dirt. Yes these children were running around without a leash but not one of them used the park as toilet!!! Come on dog owners what right do you have to let your dogs spoil these areas for others!
Margaret

21st August 2011: Dogs on a leash

We have a beautiful park area in Iluka which I also pay extra rates for it's upkeep but cannot enjoy the park as I can not go where dogs are not on a leash. People should consider others in the area too. Yes I admit I am frightened of dogs especially when they come leaping and bounding towards you and yes I have been bitten making my concerns legitimate. I have never complained, I will just stay away. Unfortunately I can not enjoy the area where I should be able to, yet others can.
Linda

18th July 2011: Dogs On Leads

With the dog that is in question it is apperent that we ( reponsible) dog owners know who the dog is. And in fairness to the dog who does know no better it is the owner who should be reported. and my understanding of the owner is he does not care, as i have heard these compliants, it is a shame that people don't stand up to the owner, not the dog.
Peter H

16th July 2011: Dogs On A Leash

We have had such experiences from other dogs fighting with our dogs...our dogs were under control and on a leash...unfortunatly..dogs will be dogs..and yes they do pick fights with other dogs because they want to be the pack leader its there nature....however...the owner of that dog needs to be reported IF they dont seem to take responsibility of there dogs actions and are rude to the other parties involved....the Joondalup rangers can and will contact these dog owners to discuss the issues ....if the dog owner ignores the warnings then stronger actions will be forced...but for this to happen these people need to be reported...if the dog and there owners are not reported then unfortunatly these incedents will keep going on.....
To J Langdon....I am sorry to hear your incident in the park and the response you recived from the Great Dane owner...Its a real shame as the majority of us are responsible dog owners and will act in the right way if this occured...Maybe the Irresponsible Dog owners should be put on a leash...
Dave

12th July 2011: Dogs not under control in the park

I have just come back from walking our Golden Retriever in Sir James McCusker Park. In the park were a group of other dog owners all chatting away along the path. None of the dogs were on leads. When walking past the group, a grey Great Dane came from behind whilst its owner continued to chat. It jumped on my dog, grabbed him by the neck and proceeded to attack him. My dog at the time was on a lead and under control. Luckily my husband was with me on this occassion and was able to get between the two dogs to stop the attack. The owner of the Great Dane then couldn't understand what the problem was!! "They're only dogs" was the comment "what do you expect". If my husband had not been there I don't know how I could have coped with the situation. The notices say a dog must be under control at all times. Clearly for this man's dog to attack mine as it did it was not under control. What if I had a small child with me as I walked past and this had occurred? at the very least! the child could have been injured. Because my dog was on a lead he was not able to properly defend himself from an untethered, uncontrolled animal. Please can we have clearer rules and notices to ensure dog owners are not left to interpret what under control means. This is not only for the sake of all dog owners but also for parents whose children should be free to enjoy the parks facilities without unnecessary risk..
J Langdon

12th July 2011: Dogs On A Leash

After the latest round of talks with the Association over dogs running around the park without a lead.... someone suggested that the COJ make a law for all dogs to be leashed while over the park!!!! I as a dog owner totaly disagree....I pay my fair share of extra rates etc to use the park as i want when i want and with whom i want...dogs included...my dogs will run free to exercise just as much....there are people who own children and take them to the park....theRE children are running and "roaming" with out a leash....you dont hear dog owners complaing of that issue...children will be children...if they misbehave...there parents tell them so...its the same with dog owners....yes I agree you will have a degree of dog owners who are not responsible...and the same goes with parents etc.... So i say NO to Dogs On A Leash Law for the park...
Dave

7th June 2011: Tree Trimming

Thank you for trimming the trees on Sunday 5 June along Shenton Avenue. You did a great job, however, you left the road in a terrible state - no-one swept up afterwards. I happen to be trying to sell my house at the moment and it's not a very good look!!! Are they supposed to tidy up afterwards? I hope so
W. Blacklock

6th June 2011: Soccer Rubish, Here we go again!

Agree with Dave below! Enough is enough! The rubbish left behind is unbelievable, it is time that they find somewhere in Heathridge, leave your rubbish in your own backyard
Marie

From the Committee
We have referred this issue to the Council for comment and hopefully some resolution. Residents who are concerned about littering at the sports oval or any other areas are encouraged to report the matter directly to CoJ using the online reporting facilty. All issues logged using this facility are reported to the committee on a monthly basis and progress of issue resolution can be viewed on the Maintenance page.

31st May 2011: Winter Sprinkler Ban

Residents are reminded that a total winter sprinkler ban is in place from 1st June through to 31st August 2011. The ban affects not only the Perth metropolitan area but most of the south west of the state as well.
By imposing the ban the water corporation is hpoing to save over 4 Billion litres of water from our already depleted supplies. It's important for everyone to do their part in order to conserve this important resource and remember the ban applies to both scheme and bore water. More information is available from the Water Corporation website.

29th May 2011: Retic on Moonflight

I was asked recently when communicating with people associated both with the developer and the CoJ whether I have something in writing regarding the retic/maintenance being an ongoing aspect of our rates/SAR financing the landscaping of our verges. No, I do not have this in writing but the written set of documents, brochures etc provided to us prior and at the Auction did not in any way, shape or form inform us that these services will ever be put to an end... When purchasing the land we were verbally informed of the SAR and it's purpose and we had to sign various docs, covenants, building guidelines etc. Apart from what was presented to us prior to the auction, we were told by the sales representatives that the verges will be maintained as an ongoing SAR service. In summary, since we were informed about the maintenance being in place and ongoing, since there was already reticulation connected and plants/grass planted, we had a good reason to believe that the verges w! ill never be our responsibility. Returning to the Local Government Act, there is no mention in section 6.37 about the withdrawal of funding 'specific work, service or facility' after a period of time or once a section of any estate and/or development is fully or partially completed. There is no mention in section 6.37 that the council can take away the 'specific work, service or facility' from the rate/SAR payers after the developer 'leaves it' and the maintenance has been transferred to the Council... There is no mention in section 6.37 that the council can take away the funding of 'specific work, service or facility' in one part of the estate to 'allocate' them, possibly again for a limited period to another just to dress it up for selling purposes... Prior to our moving to Iluka, we lived in another suburb south of the river. Our rates were half of the one's we are paying here and we never paid SAR, yet the street verges, landscaped walkways, parks and other outdoor/indo! or facilities were very well maintained... CoJ, lets all try t! o explor e other avenues of dealing with this issue!
Jolanta

25th May 2011:

I have been reviewing various web sites especially the CoJ website on which I found this info re the SAR: 'Owners in Iluka, Woodvales Waters Woodvale and Harbour Rise Estate Hillarys pay a special rate to cover the cost of additional landscaping services'... Also on the CoJ website, there is a 'STATEMENT' about section 6.37 of the Local Government Act 1995 which explains the 'purpose of meeting the cost of specific work, service or facility the Council considers has benefited or will benefit the rate payers...' I am just wondering how will the changes proposed recently benefit us, the rate payers?! Is it the intention of the developer or the council to develop an estate or a section of it and sell it with insincere pretences? On Satterley's information sheet 'AUCTION Premium Lakeside Precinct Blocks 10am Saturday 25th May, 2002', there are some snaps showing various enticing aspects of the area. Among those there is a picture of a couple of homes built on elevated cott! age blocks with little garden beds in front of their retaining walls. Were these garden beds, were our garden beds, were the Delgado garden beds just a temporary 'dress-up' feature which were predestined to be removed sometime in the future? If yes, we should have been informed about this when we were enquiring about the blocks and especially at the time we were buying them.
Jolanta

22nd May 2011: Reticulation

Very well observed '... Why are we paying the additional fee on our rates and where has that money been spent /or is to be spent?' it's so wonderful to get more feedback re this subject - thanx Margaret. I hope that if more of us will voice our opinions, something positive will happen ;) It is also good to 'hear from the Committee even though one might disagree with it's remarks like for example the Committee's latest posting re the dreaded subject of reticulation, maintenance etc... Below I have inserted the Committee's post and briefly added my comments (underlined) about the statement the Committee has made a couple of weeks ago re the subject. The Committee wrote: '... The Developer maintains a certain area for an agreed length of time after which maintenance becomes the responsibility of the City of Joondalup, it is at this time that SAR funds are utilised for maintenance...' If this is case, where did our SAR payments go in previous years and what were they us! ed for? The Committee also wrote: '...In other words, the maintenance thus far has been fully funded by the developers and no SAR funds have been used at all...' Since the developer was funding the upkeep of our verges and other areas, there should be SAR funds set aside by CoJ 'in a reserve account established under section 6.11' to be used for maintaining this area as written in section 6.37 of the Local Government Act 1995 (2b). The Committee also wrote: '...Now that these verges are being vested back to the CoJ, it is intended that verge maintenance becomes the responsibility of the individual landowner, as is the case elsewhere throughout not only Iluka but the City of Joondalup itself...' For years we have been paying rates and SAR fees part of which were to be set aside for the maintenance of our area. Since the process of vesting our area back to CoJ is well on it's way, our SAR funds set aside should be utilized to our advantage... Can every one of us please post ! our own observation re the above? btw, why do Iluka property ! owners p ays SAR in this section of the 'city'? Joondalup, Burns Beach and other areas have their verges beautifully maintained at no extra cost to the property owners...
Jolanta

16th May 2011: Reticulation

In reply to the Committee's comments regarding reticulation of the verges around the park, can they please explain why we are paying the additional fee on our rates and where has that money been spent/or is to be spent? Obviously not on the gardening contractor as these costs have been picked up by the Developer. Should it not be the responsibility of the CoJ to maintain these areas using this extra money? I agree with Jolanta that for uniformity and to maintain the attractiveness of the area that these verges should be maintained by the CoJ. We were also led to believe that these areas would be maintained after the Developer handed over responsibility
Margaret

15th May 2011: Reticulation

If Joondalup council have deemed the water useage in Iluka excessive then can someone tell me why the sprinklers are running in the middle of the day yet again even though the council have been inforned of this problem!
Margaret

15th May 2011: Moonflight Crescent Reticulation

I am glad that someone else that feels the same way we do has written here about this issue. Everyone I spoke to had the same opinion about it but they did not yet 'voice it' on this website... Hopefully posting our opinions on the noticeboard will help to reverse this somewhat unpractical maintenance withdrawal by the developers & council. In the latest Beaumaris Beach marketing catalogue, the developer amongst other superlatives about our estate, notes "And while the aesthetics are certainly one of the joys of driving the streets here, perhaps more importantly the consistently high quality continues to protect our residents' investments." How ironic, this really will not be the case in our section of Iluka after June the 30th when the aesthetics of our streets (Moonflight, Delgado and others) will no longer be neither aesthetic nor consistent. I do not believe that maintenance by individual property owners will result in the same uniformity which has been obvious for years & is to date. I will stress again, that we were informed when purchasing our land, that the upkeep of our verges was to be a regular ongoing occurrence paid for by SAR fees. From day one we had no problems outlaying this money because we knew that it was to be spent in addition to our rates "to provide higher standard of landscaping than the standard the city would normally expect which will benefit the rate payers or residents...& This fee will continue to be added to our council rates on a higher level each year, therefore the high standards should be maintained in the years to come as they were on previous years, no matter whether they are the responsibility of the developer and/or the council. We, the property owners & rate payers have been & still are funding this maintenance in our annual rates & on top of those the supplementary SAR fees, which as it says on council's website are specifically allocated for this purpose. Can the IHOA organize an additional meeting w! ith a council representative/s exclusively for the purpose of discussing this very concerning matter & finding a beneficial resolution to it?
The developer has kindly offered to continue to maintain the verges in the same way they were maintained to date. The only aspect of their maintenance - the watering, needs to be looked into and which is a problem in itself especially on Moonflight Cres because of the way the land / blocks are 'set up' here. We can not see how it would be possible at this time to both: comply with the Iluka Covenants & install retic to the front verges located meters below our blocks ground level, without in any way altering and / or spoiling the 'clean look' of the limestone retaining walls, any suggestions, anyone? Another question, which water is cheaper, the mains water or the ground water, anyone?
Jolanta

11th May 2011: Delgado Parade

Following the comments from Moonflight residents. We are extremely disappointed also with the withdrawal of retic to the verges in front of our property (which happens to be a corner cottage block). When we purchased our premium cottage block facing the park - 393sqm of land and not the verge. At the time of purchase the verge was in place shrubs were planted and fully reticulated as previous comments this was one of the main reasons we purchased this block knowing the verge along with the park would continue to be maintained and wstered. At no time during the purchasing process was it disclosed to us that the verge would become our responsibility to water and maintain, surely Satterley has a responsibility for disclosure of this matter. Would appreciate more comments.
Adrian & Hilda

9th May 2011: Moonflight Crescent

I spoke to Satterley about the reticulation and shrubs issue was assuresd that no one so far wants the hedge outside there front removed...there is one house on the corner with a grassed area that they want removed and more than likely paved....Satterley also assures me that they will mantain the shrubs ..mulch and trimming of the headge along the front of Moonflight...however the watering issue is out of there control as the COJ run that area....it looks like we will have to water our own verges either with retic installed [with help from satterly]or use a hose pipe.....sorry but with these water restictions going on we may even see further cuts....who knows...
Dave

9th May 2011: Moonflight Crescent

Thank u - the committee 4 ur reply which somewhat puzzled me because @ the time of our purchasing the block on moonflight we were lead to believe that the verge in front of our house & all the other cottage lots facing east to the park, were going to always be maintained & sar funds were to cover the cost of the maintenance... There was no mention of 'a restricted time frame' nor a possibility of the maintenance withdrawn. We chose to move to this area because we no longer wanted to look after a garden but @ the same time we wanted to enjoy the outdoors & since the verge was going to be maintained and since opposite moonflight there's a beautiful park, we've decided to 'set up house' here & enjoy the surroundings :) unfortunately, last month's letter from satterley got us quite disappointed. we do not believe that the supply of bore water to moonflight verges & the maintenance of them should be discontinued especially since the developers promoted the blocks with these! services included! Btw, why do the council of joondalup plan to force the residents of moonflight to use mains water on their verges, when reticulation with bore water is already connected and working fantastically well??? Another thing, it would b very beneficial if the ihoa did represent property owner's interest in this regard and negotiated a better outcomes from the council. Isn't it what the property body is meant to do??? anyone's feedback would b appreciated :)
Jolanta

1st May 2011: Crows

Is there anything we can do to eradicate the plagues of crows we have in our area? From early morning and through the day our garden and street is filled with the awful squawking they make. Ive hardly seen any other bird breeds since they have taken over our neighborhood. My cat has been swooped on while hes been dozing, and I had a near miss from one yesterday. Theyre awful things and I was wondering if the council were able to do anything about them?
S. McGrath

1st May 2011: Reticulation on Moonflight Crescent

just wondering what do the residents of moonflight think about the recent correspondence from beaumaris land sales/satterley dropped into our letter boxes... there's is a notice there informing us about plans of switching off the street verge reticulation and no longer maintaining this area... prior to our purchasing the blocks we were informed that the verge will continue to be maintained on the owner's behalf for which the owners will have to pay an additional fee with their annual council rates (sar)... the developers would not pass this info and reticulate this area just to have it running for a limited period. the goal was at that time and we believe should still be to make our street appealing and uniform! the result of these changes will reduce the street appeal especially since it is just about impossible now to cut through the retaining walls for a purpose of connecting the street verge to a water source... we do not believe that the reticulation already in place, using the same ground water supplied to the park should be turned off, can anybody else comment and present their views please? lets try to have our lovely street maintained and keep it as attractive as we were lead to believe it will be for years to come, it is our home and at the same time our long term investment :-) btw, iluka is not yet fully developped therefore as noted by the commitee on the 13th of january, 'all maintenance responsibilities' are with the developer so please satterley - lets continue the great work!!!
Jolanta

From the Committee
By way of clarification, the Developer maintains a certain area for an agreed length of time after which maintenance becomes the responsibility of the City of Joondalup, it is at this time that SAR funds are utilised for maintenance. In other words, the maintenance thus far has been fully funded by the developers and no SAR funds have been used at all. Now that these verges are being vested back to the CoJ, it is intended that verge maintenance becomes the responsibility of the individual landowner, as is the case elsewhere throughout not only Iluka but the City of Joondalup itself. Residents requiring more information are invited to attend the monthly committee meeting.

1st May 2011: Park issues (11th April)

Being a resident of Iluka, which is an absolutely beautiful place with a lovely park. I have a couple of issues that I would like to raise relating to the park and which there also seems to be a lot of contention with and is the fact there are no toilets. I am sure that most of the people who have written against having a toilet at the park do not have young children or who are not planning on spending more than 30 mins there. I have young children and only the other day had to leave as a toilet stop was required. I am sure that a toilet could be placed discreetly somewhere in the park near to the play area but away from houses! Secondly, where are the drinking fountains? And thirdly, people love to walk their dogs and parks are an ideal place for this but I am surprised at the amount of dogs running loose and that they are able to go into the sandy play area where the children play, and being able to relieve themselves in the sand. Obviously, this is a serious ! health risk to the children. As a suggestion as most of the playground is already fenced could this not be continued around the play area and gated. Making it a safe, secure and clean play area for the children.
K. Althorpe

1st May 2011: Prowler (7th April)

On the night of 6 April, 2011 at 11.30pm we disturbed a prowler at our front bedroom window. Having disturbed him, he jumped the front wrought iron fence and ran off up the street. 5 minutes later a white commodore slowly drove past the house a number of times. He was rather brazen as our whole front yard is totally lit up by the street light.

3rd April 2011: Car Break In (22nd March)

Just advising everyone to be viligant with home and car safety. My husbands work car was broken into last night, parked on our driveway in Manhattan Avenue. Luckily no damage was caused and nothing was taken.
Mia

15th March 2011: Hoon drivers

Regarding the recent complaints about 'hoon' drivers, since I have grown up in Iluka (resident for over 15 years) and fit into the age category that seems to always cop the blame for bad driving (now in my 20's) I would like to point out that almost every resident who drives past myself, my wife and my daughter while we are out on our walks is speeding.

Sometimes it is so concerning that we end up moving onto someones lawn in case the drivers are that clueless that they slide off the road.

Being that we experience this so frequently, my main message is that it is almost every resident, young, old, male, female. Keep on blaming my generation like the media absolutely loves doing, but I for one know it is just as likely to be an arrogant, well to do grey haired woman as it is a tradie with a rats tail in his ute.
Marc

13th March 2011: Parking in rear entry blocks

The rear entry blocks have some residents that think its clever to put their 4 wheel drive on the other side of the laneway to all other homeowners.this makes a chicane that is difficult to manouvre through. An ambulance could not get through at the rear of the houses in Moonflight a couple of weeks back, one of the offending cars does not park in that fashion anymore, but another vehicle,a 4wd, is repeatedly parked the wrong way outside the rear gate of a very regular subscriber to the web forum. More important than aerials on roofs, this could cost lives if firies can't get through, as well as being a major inconvenience to other residents.
T. Daly

13th March 2011: Hoon drivers

I totaly agree with the resident who has submitted a letter about hoon drivers in the iluka area....this debate has gone on way to long now and i think its about time the commitee brought this up again at the next meeting with COJ to discuss measures on how to slow these drivers down...it is not only hoon drivers but i see large 4wd with mums on school runs doing the same thing...speeding...isnt it about time we introduced sleeping policemen or added cicanes at certain distances to make all drivers slow down ....Delgardo way and the blvrd is of most concern!
D. Salway

From the Committee
The committee has hosted a number of community forums in the past and have received great support from Albert Jacob MP with regard to inclusion of proposals for traffic calming measures in the forward capital works plan. For a truly effective solution to any issue we do rely on engagement and input from residents immediately affected by the issue. Any residents who have constructive suggestions to make about this and any other issue are welcome to attend the next regular committee meeting to discuss.
In the meantime, residents should make note of the number plates of speeding drivers and report them to the appropriate authority, being the Police on 131 444.

9th March 2011: Hoon drivers

Hi, i am writing to advise my dissapointment of the increasing number of young drivers (particularly ones with utes) and young tradies racing through stop signs and not slowing down. My barely one year old Bengal kitten was killed on our verge by a hit and run driver a neighbour says in a ute. Many times i have witnessed hoon like driving in the suburb and now my cat has been killed in broad daylight. Can i ask all the parents with adolescent (young adult) children driving to ask them to slow down and look and also be aware of tradies acting this way also.

20th January 2011: Toilets in Sir James McCusker Park

I would like to see the provision of toilets in Sir James McCusker Park.
I understand residents legitimate concerns regarding anti social behavior and would encourage residents and the association to lobby the City of Joondalup for the provision of a self contained automated public toilet system. These systems can be programmed to lock/unlock themselves on a schedule and some even clean themselves! I have seen them installed in the Joondalup City centre and they appear to work very well. Here is an example I found via a web search:http://www.exeloo.com.au/orbit.htm I can't see this type of installation attracting loiterers and anti social behavior.

20th January 2011: Sir James McCusker Park

On the topic Sir James McCusker Park, as a mother of 3 very young children who play on the play equipment, I would like to raise the issue of the partial fence around the play area and a complete lack of shade.
The fence that surrounds the equipment is only partial, and given the proximity to the lake, I believe poses a risk to young children playing in the area. Although I understand that watching children is the parent's responsibility, I also believe that the Council have a responsibility to provide a safe (i.e fully enclosed) play area in this situation. Extending the fence would also prevent dogs from running through the area whilst children are playing. There are play areas elsewhere in the COJ which are fully gated.
Additionally, the play equipment is exposed to the sun and becomes far too hot, particularly in summer for kids to play on. Shade sails would assist with this.
I will also be writing to the City of Joondalup concerning this matter but would appreciate the support of the Home Owner's Association on the issue.

18th January 2011: Toilets at Sir James McCusker Park

I think most people in Iluka can sympathise with D Salway and others close by the park, after all who wants a toilet block built over the road from their residence?.
The point, however, is not an arguement about who's park it is but should the CoJ be allowed to put up a structure such as it has done down on the beach area at the end of Shenton Ave - hopefully not!!. This structure is an apology for a toilet block which I cannot see many (if any) women willingly using, it is an ugly eyesore a disgraceful/humiliating design and an invitation for those things that D Salway fears.
Sir James McCusker Park is a very attractive place and an asset for Iluka residents and should not be blemished by eyesores like those built by the CoJ.

I totaly disagree with Toilet Blocks at the local park.... There are toilet blocks at the burns beach rec park....Local Residents of Iluka pay for the up keep of there local park...Burns beach residents do not....therefore I still say no to public toilets at the McCusker park.... To the people who are wanting toilet blocks at this park..may I ask do you live opposite the park...the reason I ask this question is that if you do not... it us who do live opposite the park who have to put up with the anti social people who will gather there after dusk being loud...abusive and ugly...mark my words...this will happen... This park was only developed for the people of Iluka..not for every surounding suburb to attend...they have there own park...but i will say this...i have seen there parks...not very nice...why....because they dont pay towards the cost of maintaining it....wake up people of iluke...why pay for other suburbs to flout on our expense!!!!

From the Committee
Residents need to be aware that the SAR funds (i.e.: the additional amounts that you pay on your rates notice for maintenance in Iluka) is NOT utilised for the maintenance of Sir James McCusker Park. SAR funds are only to be utilised for maintenance of verges and roundabouts. The park is a designated public open space and is maintained jointly by the City of Joondalup (through the regular rates levied on ALL residents in the City) and the Developer (Satterly). Once Iluka is fully developed, all maintenance responsibility is to be transferred to the City of Joondalup. As much as we like to think of it as our park, in reality it is a public space available for use by any resident, as are all of the parks throughout not only the City of Joondalup, but the entire metropolitan area.

Further to Turfworks WA Pyt note on 10/11, is it me or has anyone elese noticed a marked deteriation of the upkeep in the park? What I mean if the amount of leafs and debris. Once every friday you noticed the park looked immaculate ready for the weekend. Now it appears to be only claered occasionaly. I have now connection with the company purely an observation I was going to make without these comments. I am concerned that ther are signs that the park is not being looked after as it once was. There appears to be algae starting to form on the main lake, the busland that connects the 2 lakes is also starting to look scuffy and teh number of dead treas is of concern. I know this is not in IHOA remit , but has anyone else noticed it or is it just me?
