Greening Iluka
The BBHOA committee has commenced a project aimed at increasing the greening of ILUKA through
the development of a tree policy. It is an increasing concern of the number of trees being removed
in the suburb, due to the damage their roots are causing.
The offending trees are generally the casuarina's planted as street trees by the developers for
their quick growth and hardiness in the environment of Iluka.
We are awaiting some information from horticulturalists as to a short list of about 4 trees that
will cope well in this environment without causing any problems requiring their removal later.
Once this list is established the plan is that if a tree is removed in Iluka it will be replaced by
a tree on this list already advanced in growth (e.g. + 1.8m).
Keep your eye on this website as we develop this policy and launch it in conjunction with
Satterley's and the City of Joondalup.
