50km In My Street

A number of residents have expressed their concerns to the Beaumaris Beach Home Owners Association regarding the increasing number of motor vehicles seen to be exceeding the speed limit through the suburb.

Unfortunately it would seem that many of these vehicles belong to residents of Iluka, not only would we like to take this opportunity to remind residents to exercise caution on the roads but we would also like to urge residents to lend their support to the 50km In My Street program.

This program encourages local street residents to place a "50km In My Street" sticker on their domestic waste bin. The bins then act as a mobile speed sign at least once a week by reminding all road users to keep to a 50km/hr speed limit. The program seeks to actively involve local residents to take ownership of and build community spirit against speeding on local roads.

More information about this and other road safety initiatives is available from the City of Joondalup's Road Safety Officer who can be contacted on 9400 4335.

Update October 2004

We've had a great response to this road safety initiative over the last three months, so much so that we have run out of stickers..., but you can still obtain a sticker from Joondalup Council.

Thank you for your support.
