7th December 2005: Currambine Shopping Centre Structure Plan.

Joondalup City Council have released the structure plan for the Currambine District Shopping Centre and are seeking public comment.

The area opposite Iluka, bordering the eastern side of Marmion Avenue has long been am eyesore and a source of embarrassment for the surrounding suburbs and it is encouraging that the Council is finally taking steps to improve the area. The plan envisages and mixture of residential, business, commercial and civic/cultural developments in the area.

One item of particular concern has been drawn to our attention, there is an area to the front of the existing cinema complex which has been zoned commercial, however there is no indication as to the exact nature of the development and council have thus far refused to elaborate as to the intentions for this area. This has led to considerable concern and speculation as to what exactly is planned here (eg: Tavern?). The lack of clarity from Council only serves to confuse the situation all the more.

The Committee urges all residents to review the structure plan and provide feedback to the council. All submissions must be receieved by the 22nd December 2005.
